Splatoon 4: Sequel Whispers After Grand Festival
Nintendo's recent announcement confirmed the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, festive events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges and necessary weapon adjustments.
The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."
This news follows the September 16th conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival, commemorated with a retrospective video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio. Nintendo's closing remark, "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!", hints at a potential transition. With two years having passed since Splatoon 3's September 9th launch, and development winding down, rumors of a Splatoon 4 are intensifying. Some players believe in-game locations from the Grand Festival might be clues to a new setting in a future installment.
One fan commented on a post showing in-game images of a city-like area: "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others, however, disagree, suggesting the location is simply a variation of Splatsville.
Although nothing official has been announced, speculation about Splatoon 4 has been circulating for months. Reports suggest Nintendo has begun development on a new Splatoon title for the Switch. The Grand Festival being the final major Splatfest further strengthens the belief that a sequel is imminent.
Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, leading fans to believe Splatoon 3's "Past, Present, or Future" theme might foreshadow a similar concept for Splatoon 4. However, confirmation awaits an official announcement from Nintendo.
