In an exciting development for fans, Neil Druckmann, the showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head, has revealed that HBO's *The Last of Us* Season 2 will incorporate content that was originally cut from *The Last of Us Part 2* video game. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Druckmann described the revived scenes as "pretty brutal," suggesting a thrilling and intense viewing experience. These scenes, known as the Lost Levels, were partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster of the game. They include three early versions of levels that were scrapped: Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers. While Jackson Party and The Hunt offer more serene moments with Ellie at a party and tracking a bleeding boar, respectively, Seattle Sewers ramps up the tension with Ellie being stalked by monsters in the tunnels beneath the city.

The inclusion of this cut content is set to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Druckmann expressed his excitement, stating, "\[It's\] pretty brutal, but I'm very excited for people to see it." He also teased the introduction of a "pretty prominent" character, who was only mentioned in the game, drawing parallels to the approach taken with Frank in Season 1.
Season 2 will introduce several new characters to the series, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. However, the role of Catherine O'Hara remains a mystery, adding an extra layer of intrigue for fans. With the premiere of Episode 1 scheduled for April, viewers won't have to wait long to start unraveling these mysteries. Yet, some questions may linger as HBO plans to extend the coverage of *The Last of Us Part 2* beyond a single season. Unlike Season 1, which encapsulated the entire first game, Season 2 will only cover part of the second game's story.
Craig Mazin, the co-showrunner, has noted that *The Last of Us Part 2* has a significantly larger narrative, which has led them to structure Season 2 with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes. Although Season 3 is not yet confirmed, this approach leaves room for further exploration of the game's rich storyline.
