NieR: Automata - Where To Get Beast Hide

NieR: Automata offers a diverse arsenal of weapons, upgradeable multiple times to extend their usefulness throughout the game. Weapon upgrades, however, require specific resources, including the less common Beast Hides. This guide details efficient farming strategies.

Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar, found in specific areas. These animals are easily identified on the mini-map by their white icons (unlike the black icons of machines). They tend to avoid players and robots.

Wildlife spawns are less frequent than machines, requiring strategic searching. Moose and boar are exclusive to the ruined city and forest zones. Their aggression depends on your level relative to theirs; higher-level animals may flee or attack, even becoming aggressive at close proximity. Wildlife possesses substantial health, posing a challenge, especially early in the game, when facing similarly leveled or stronger animals.

Animal Bait can help lure wildlife, simplifying encounters. Since wildlife doesn't respawn continuously during the main story, hunting requires exploration and revisiting areas. Respawn mechanics for wildlife mirror those of machines:

  • Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
  • Traveling a sufficient distance triggers respawns in previously visited zones.
  • Story progression can also trigger respawns in nearby areas.

There's no dedicated Beast Hide farm. Consistently hunting wildlife encountered while exploring the forest and city ruins usually provides sufficient hides. The drop rate is favorable, ensuring you'll rarely need excessive quantities beyond your immediate weapon upgrade needs.
