Krafton Considers Renaming Dark & Darker Mobile

It appears that Dark and Darker Mobile, the eagerly awaited smartphone adaptation of the popular hack 'n slash extraction dungeon crawler, is on the brink of a significant transformation. Recent reports indicate that Krafton is not only planning to change the game's name but also to terminate its agreement with Ironmace Studio.

This development comes at a challenging time for Ironmace, as they have recently been mandated to pay $6 million in damages to Nexon due to an ongoing lawsuit. The core of the lawsuit revolves around Nexon's claim that Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, utilized trade secrets from a cancelled project known as P3 to develop Dark and Darker.

Despite Krafton's assertion that the name change is unrelated to the lawsuit's ruling, they have also announced the termination of their global licensing agreement with Ironmace. As a result, Dark and Darker Mobile (or its forthcoming new name) will proceed as a fully standalone release.

Darkest of dungeonsThe ethical considerations surrounding this lawsuit are complex, especially given that Ironmace initially filed a suit against Nexon for copyright infringement. Ironically, even after severing ties with Ironmace, Krafton seems poised to rebrand and continue with the project. This situation underscores the opening of floodgates for this genre of game releases.

For fans eagerly anticipating Dark and Darker Mobile, this isn't necessarily negative news. Krafton has confirmed that they will adhere to the global release schedule for the game. However, should there be any shifts in plans or further developments, we will keep you informed.

We remain hopeful that the full launch of Dark and Darker Mobile will uphold the high standards that we highlighted in our review.
