Cox Criticized 'Least Favorite' Daredevil Episode

The journey of "Daredevil: Born Again" from script to screen involved numerous adjustments and rewrites, yet one episode remained entirely unchanged: Episode 5. Interestingly, this very installment happens to be star Charlie Cox's personal least favorite of the entire season.

"I'm not sure if this is noteworthy, but I’ll mention that among all the changes, one episode was left completely intact," Cox shared in a recent interview with The Playlist.

"It's the bank episode, which was part of our original production. We filmed it before the strike, based on the initial script, and personally, I wasn't a fan."

Cox told the outlet that he "pushed back against it as much as I reasonably could." The episode centers on his character Matt Murdock (the alter ego of Daredevil) getting trapped during a bank robbery while trying to secure a loan for the law firm he runs with partners Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll).

"That premise feels like a game from the 1970s," Cox commented on the episode. "With today's technology, it just wouldn't work. I also didn't think the method used for the theft was sophisticated enough."

Despite his personal reservations, the actor acknowledged that fans appeared to genuinely enjoy the episode.

"I really argued against that episode, and yet I keep hearing from so many people that they loved it. It just shows you can never predict these things. It's completely subjective," Cox added. "Everyone has different tastes. I've heard it's one of the highest-rated episodes internally. According to their metrics, it's among the top-performing Disney+ shows they've released."

We certainly enjoyed Episode 5. In our review of "Daredevil: Born Again" Episodes 5 and 6, we wrote: "The execution is simply superb. I can't recall the last time a Marvel series kept me grinning throughout an entire episode and completely engaged from start to finish. This chapter also accomplishes something crucial given the limited presence of Daredevil so far: it demonstrates what makes Matt Murdock such a distinctive and remarkable hero, even without his costume."
