Minecraft Campfire: A Comprehensive Guide

This guide details the multifaceted Minecraft Campfire, introduced in version 1.14, covering its uses and, importantly, how to extinguish it. Beyond its decorative appeal, the Campfire offers diverse functionalities: mob and player damage, smoke signaling, cooking, and even bee calming. Mastering campfire extinguishment unlocks its full potential.

How to Extinguish a Campfire

Three methods exist for extinguishing a Minecraft Campfire:

  • Water Bucket: The simplest method involves using a water bucket. Pour the water onto the Campfire block to douse the flames.
  • Splash Water Potion: A Splash Water Potion, thrown onto the Campfire, will also extinguish it. Note this requires gunpowder and glass, making it less efficient in the early game.
  • Shovel: The most economical and often overlooked method uses any shovel (even a wooden one). Right-click (or left trigger on consoles) the Campfire with the shovel to extinguish it.

How to Obtain a Campfire

Acquiring a Campfire is straightforward:

  • Natural Generation: Campfires naturally spawn in Taiga and Snowy Taiga villages, and within Ancient City camps. Harvesting pre-placed Campfires requires a tool with the Silk Touch enchantment; otherwise, only coal will drop (two in Java, four in Bedrock).
  • Crafting: A Campfire is easily crafted using sticks, wood, and either charcoal or soul sand. The latter determines the campfire type (regular or soul fire).
  • Trading: Apprentice fishermen will trade Campfires for emeralds (five in Bedrock, two in Java).
