Years of fervent pleas from Bloodborne fans for a remastered version of the FromSoftware classic have reached a fever pitch, fueled by recent Instagram activity.
Instagram Posts Reignite Bloodborne Remaster Hype
A Beloved Game Deserves a Modern Update
Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed 2015 RPG, holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. The desire to revisit Yharnam's gothic streets on current-gen consoles is widespread. While no official announcement has been made, recent Instagram posts from FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia featuring the game have ignited speculation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three evocative images, each bearing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One showcased Djura, a memorable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others captured the player character navigating Yharnam's heart and the eerie Charnel Lane.
While this could simply be a nostalgic throwback, Bloodborne's passionate community, particularly on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), is meticulously analyzing every detail, searching for hidden clues hinting at a remaster. The timing, especially considering a similar post by PlayStation Italia on August 17th, has only amplified the excitement.
PlayStation Italia's post (translated) asked fans to share their favorite Bloodborne locations, prompting a flood of comments expressing the hope for a Yharnam return, many playfully suggesting a PC or next-gen console release as the most iconic location.
The Hunt Continues: Bloodborne on Modern Platforms
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne cultivated a fiercely loyal fanbase, earning widespread critical acclaim and recognition as one of gaming's greats. Yet, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
Fans point to the 2020 Demon's Souls remake (originally from 2009) as a potential precedent, but this also fuels anxieties about the potential wait. Given Demon's Souls' decade-long journey to a remake, the fear is that Bloodborne might face a similar lengthy delay. As the game's tenth anniversary approaches, the anticipation is palpable.
Fuel was added to the fire in a February interview with Eurogamer, where Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledged the advantages of remastering the game for modern hardware, stating that increased accessibility for players is a key benefit.
However, Miyazaki's comments, while hopeful, don't guarantee a remaster. Unlike Elden Ring (fully owned by FromSoftware), Bloodborne's IP rights are held by Sony, limiting FromSoftware's ability to make announcements. Miyazaki has confirmed in other interviews that he cannot speak to the specifics of Bloodborne's future.
The dedicated Bloodborne community's desire for a remake is undeniable. Despite its success, Sony hasn't yet broadened its reach beyond the PS4. Whether the current speculation translates into reality remains to be seen.
