Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!

The highly anticipated Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 has arrived, and the player response has been nothing short of phenomenal, especially regarding the modding scene. The sheer volume of mods is staggering.

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke highlighted the impact, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of the September 5th release. This was further amplified by Scott Reismanis, founder of ModDB and mod.io, who reported that the number has already surpassed three million installs and continues to climb rapidly.

This explosion of modding activity is fueled by Patch 7's introduction of several key features: new evil endings, enhanced split-screen, and Larian's official Mod Manager. This integrated tool simplifies mod browsing, installation, and management directly within the game.

The existing modding tools, accessible via Steam, empower creators to craft their own narratives using Larian's Osiris scripting language. Modders can incorporate custom scripts, perform basic debugging, and directly publish their creations from the toolkit.

Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon

PC Gamer noted a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" (by modder Siegfre on Nexus) that unlocks a full level editor and reactivates previously restricted features in Larian's editor. While Larian initially limited access to its development tools, Vincke explained that the company's focus is game development, not tool creation.

However, Larian is actively developing cross-platform modding support, acknowledging the significant challenge of ensuring compatibility across PC and consoles. The initial rollout will focus on the PC version, with console support following later to allow for thorough testing and addressing any potential issues.
