Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Mountaintop Studios, the developers behind the newly released FPS, Spectre Divide, have announced significant price reductions for in-game skins and bundles following immediate player backlash over initial pricing. This adjustment, implemented mere hours after launch, reflects a direct response to widespread criticism.

Price Cuts and Refunds

Game director Lee Horn revealed a 17-25% price decrease across various in-game items. The studio's statement acknowledged player feedback, stating, "We've heard your feedback and we're making changes. Weapons & Outfits will be permanently decreasing in price by 17-25%. Players who purchased store items before the change will get a 30% SP [in-game currency] refund." This refund is rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.

The price reduction addresses concerns regarding the high cost of bundles, such as the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle, which initially launched at approximately $85 (9,000 SP). However, the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will retain their original prices. The studio clarified that players who purchased the Founder's or Supporter packs and these additional items will receive the extra SP added to their accounts.

Mixed Reactions and Future Outlook

Despite the price adjustments, player reaction remains divided, mirroring the game's current "Mixed" rating on Steam (49% Negative at the time of writing). While some players appreciate the developer's responsiveness, others express concern about the timing of the changes and suggest further improvements, such as the ability to purchase individual items from bundles. Skepticism persists regarding the game's long-term viability in a competitive free-to-play market. The future success of Spectre Divide hinges on continued developer responsiveness and addressing player concerns proactively.
