According to Variety, the project is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the team behind recent successful video game movie adaptations such as the Sonic the Hedgehog films. The goal is to tap into the Toys 'R' Us brand's significance over its 70-year history in the toy industry.

Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg expressed their excitement about the project, emphasizing the brand's cultural impact and their nostalgia for the iconic store. The movie draws inspiration from films like Night at the Museum, Back to the Future, and Big, as well as toy-to-movie crossover franchises like Barbie. While specific casting details are yet to be announced, Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval will produce for Story Kitchen, alongside Kim Miller Olko, who will produce for Toys "R" Us Studios.

Miller Olko, president of Toys "R" Us Studios, highlighted the film's significance as the brand's first cinematic venture. She described it as a journey that will capture the imagination, adventure, and joy that has made Toys "R" Us a beloved destination for kids of all ages.

Story Kitchen has been busy with other projects as well, including film adaptations of Square Enix's Just Cause, Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs, showcasing their growing influence in the film adaptation industry.
