Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most exciting chapter yet for the pirate multiplayer game, promising a treasure trove of new content including new modes, ships, a legendary Kraken, and the much-anticipated land combat feature that fans have been clamoring for since the game's launch.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its ambitious plans for the upcoming year. The presentation was brimming with exciting updates, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, that's stealing the spotlight with the introduction of land combat. This eagerly awaited feature will allow players to step away from the sea and engage in thrilling swordfights and gun battles on land. As part of the Rogue Warlord additions, players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video gave fans a glimpse of what to expect, though we'll have to wait until later this year to see the full scope of this new gameplay element.

While land combat is the headline act of Skull and Bones Year 2, Ubisoft has plenty more in store to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos kicks off today, April 15, introducing a new loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Following that, Season 2: Oaths of War, slated for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships. The excitement continues into winter with Season 4: Eye of the Beast, which will feature the awe-inspiring Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the powerful Corvette large ship.

If all these updates have piqued your interest, you're in luck. Ubisoft is hosting a free weekend for Skull and Bones from April 17 to 21, giving players a chance to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact amount has yet to be revealed.

Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a solid 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has kept official sales figures under wraps, they did tease that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
