Publisher Tells Nintendo To Pull Its Own Game From Switch 2 eShop while it waits for backwards compatibility patch to go live

Limited Run Games has requested Nintendo to remove Gex Trilogy from the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop until there’s clarity on when a patch will be released to fix backwards compatibility issues.

In a social media post, Limited Run stated it doesn’t expect the patch to arrive this week due to approval delays, which it attributed to yesterday’s US public holiday. As a result, the publisher said it has asked Nintendo to temporarily pull the game.

Limited Run noted that several of its Switch 1 titles have encountered backwards compatibility problems on the Switch 2. While a recent system firmware update improved performance for the “majority” of these games, Gex Trilogy remains affected. The company developed a patch to resolve the issue and is now awaiting its official approval for public release.

"In the meantime, we’ve asked Nintendo to remove the game from the Switch 2 eShop. Thank you for your patience as we work with Nintendo to resolve these issues."

Gex Trilogy is a compilation of all three platforming adventures featuring the witty, sarcastic gecko: Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. It launched on June 16 for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Xbox Series, and previous-gen consoles. The original Gex first debuted in 1995 on 3DO and was later ported to the original PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC. It spawned two sequels in 1998 and 1999, but publisher Square Enix hasn’t released a new entry since — making this remaster highly anticipated.

Nintendo Switch 2 is off to a strong start, with 3.5 million consoles sold, but an analysis of launch week sales reveals a mixed performance for games not developed by Nintendo.
