Nintendo Switch 2 Rumored Release Date Emerges

Nintendo Switch 2: Official Reveal Imminent?

Reliable sources suggest Nintendo will finally unveil the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This follows a pattern; the original Switch was also revealed on a Thursday in 2016. An early 2025 announcement strongly indicates a first-half 2025 release.

The Switch 2's existence has been an open secret for some time. Reports indicate mass production began around September/October 2024, corroborated by numerous hardware leaks. Nintendo itself committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025. NateTheHate, a reputable leaker, confirmed the January 16th date, a claim supported by Tom Warren of The Verge. Thursdays have historically been favored by Nintendo for major announcements.

Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement

While a pre-announcement teaser on social media, mirroring the original Switch's rollout, remains a possibility, the sheer volume of leaks makes a surprise reveal unlikely. The extent of these leaks is such that Nintendo even addressed a Switch 2 replica, a rare acknowledgement of unofficial information.

Rumors suggest a slightly larger console than the Switch OLED (270 x 116 x 14mm) with an 8-inch LCD screen. Magnetically attaching Joy-Cons are expected, with the right Joy-Con potentially featuring a new "C" button, possibly related to a rumored mouse-like pointer function.

Launch Lineup Remains Enigmatic

Unlike the hardware details, the Switch 2's launch game lineup remains largely unknown. While titles like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario are confirmed, neither is anticipated as a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo will likely prioritize one or more major first-party titles to drive initial sales.
