The announcement that The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 through the GameCube library has sparked some concern among fans. However, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of product development, Nate Bihldorff, has reassured fans during an interview with Kinda Funny's Tim Gettys that the availability of a game on Nintendo Switch Online does not rule out the possibility of a remaster or remake. Bihldorff emphasized that all options remain open for beloved titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, which have yet to be ported to the Nintendo Switch or its upcoming iteration.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, previously ported to the Wii U in 2013, will soon be accessible through Nintendo's premium subscription service upon the Nintendo Switch 2's release on June 5. Despite this, Bihldorff's comments suggest that fans shouldn't lose hope for a more comprehensive remaster. He noted that Nintendo's history includes instances where games available on Nintendo Switch Online have also been released in different formats, hinting that "never say never" applies to potential future ports.
During last week's Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that GameCube titles are being added to the Nintendo Switch Online's premium library, allowing subscribers to dive into a range of classic 2000s-era games. This exciting update includes titles like F-Zero GX, Soulcalibur 2, and of course, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, all launching this summer. The library is set to expand further with titles such as Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Strikers, and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness on the horizon.
In other news, the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order date in the United States faced delays due to import tariffs initiated by President Trump, affecting financial markets. This delay subsequently impacted Nintendo Canada, with pre-orders also being postponed there.
