Mortal Kombat 1 added a secret fighter with a reference to a legendary rock band

This week's Mortal Kombat 1 update delivered a surprise: Conan the Barbarian joined the roster, but a completely unannounced character also made an appearance – a pink-clad ninja named Floyd! This isn't a joke; Floyd is a genuine, albeit secret, playable fighter.

The character is a clear nod to Pink Floyd, his introduction mirroring the band's iconic Dark Side of the Moon album cover, showcasing the dispersion of light into various colors. Interestingly, Floyd's moveset is a compilation of techniques borrowed from other ninjas in the game, incorporating Sub-Zero's freeze abilities and Scorpion's spear attacks. Adding to the fun, Floyd boasts a unique 1337 health stat.

Long-time Mortal Kombat fans might experience a sense of déjà vu. This secret character mechanic echoes the introduction of Reptile in the original Mortal Kombat game. Like Floyd, Reptile was notoriously difficult to unlock and utilized a moveset based on other ninjas.

The community is currently working to definitively uncover the precise method for triggering a fight with Floyd. While the encounter currently appears somewhat random, Floyd offers clues regarding the necessary challenges. A confirmed, consistent method remains elusive, however.
