King of Crabs: PvP Crustacean Action Returns to Mobile

If you've been following our reviews, you might remember our take on the amusing battle royale game, King of Crabs, back in 2019. Although it didn't quite resonate with our reviewer, the developers at Robot Squid have taken a fresh approach with their latest installment, King of Crabs - Invasion, set to launch on iOS and Android on May 30th.

This time around, Robot Squid is steering away from the battle royale format and diving into the realm of real-time strategy (RTS). Much like classics such as Age of War, King of Crabs - Invasion challenges you to outmaneuver your opponent on a linear battlefield. Your strategy will involve selecting and deploying a variety of units, ranging from swarms of regular crabs to specialized units like catapults and mace-wielding crustaceans. Each battlefield comes with its own set of obstacles, making victory a strategic puzzle to solve.

King of Crabs - Invasion takes the chaotic, crab-centric action of its predecessor and adapts it into a new genre. For a concept as whimsical as crabs battling to the death, transitioning to a simple yet engaging RTS feels like a fitting evolution. However, our past critique highlighted that the initial charm of King of Crabs might not hold up over time. There's a concern that the novelty of King of Crabs - Invasion could similarly fade, but you'll have the chance to see for yourself when it launches on May 30th.
