Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced its intention to develop a sequel to the hugely successful Hogwarts Legacy, the Harry Potter-themed action RPG that sold over 24 million copies in 2023. This confirmation came from Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels during Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, as reported by Variety.

Wiedenfels stated, "Developing a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is a top priority for us in the coming years. We anticipate significant growth from our games business, and this sequel will be a key contributor."

Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Games' David Haddad highlighted the game's remarkable replayability in an interview with Variety. He noted, "The game's high replay value has been a major factor in its success, with many players completing multiple playthroughs." Haddad emphasized that the game's sales figures and replayability weren't the only reasons for celebration. He added, "It brought the world of Harry Potter to life in a fresh and engaging way for gamers, allowing them to truly immerse themselves in the story and create their own unique experiences."

Haddad believes this immersive quality is what truly resonated with players, propelling Hogwarts Legacy to the top of the sales charts. He concluded, "This is a position usually held by sequels from established franchises, and we're incredibly proud to have achieved this success."
