Sony and the renowned game developer Santa Monica Studio have unveiled the Dark Odyssey collection, an exciting new update for God of War Ragnarök that will be available to players next week. This update brings a selection of in-game equipment inspired by one of the franchise's most iconic outfits, celebrating the rich legacy of the God of War series.

In a detailed PlayStation.Blog post, Sony shared their comprehensive plans for the God of War 20th anniversary, spotlighting the Dark Odyssey collection. This free update, set to launch on March 20, is available to all God of War Ragnarök players on PlayStation 5 and PC. The collection boasts a sleek, black-and-gold aesthetic, enhancing the visual appeal of Kratos, Atreus, and Freya as they navigate the realms of Norse mythology. Both Atreus and Freya will receive unique cosmetic sets, while a variety of shields and weapons will also sport the Dark Odyssey look.

The highlight of the update is undoubtedly the Dark Odyssey appearance and armor set for Kratos, reminiscent of a legendary skin from God of War 2, previously exclusive to those who conquered the game on God Mode difficulty. Players can unlock this coveted content from any Lost Items chest in the main game or instantly in the roguelike Valhalla mode upon the update's release. Additionally, the update will introduce a much-requested feature: the ability to customize Kratos' weapons' appearance without affecting their abilities.

Given that God of War Ragnarök was released in late 2022, a single update couldn't possibly encapsulate the series' two-decade journey. Sony's celebration of God of War extends beyond the Dark Odyssey collection, offering a range of activities and promotions for long-time fans. These include downloadable social media assets available here, an art showcase through a partnership with Los Angeles' Gallery Nucleus, new merchandise, sales, multiple vinyl releases that cover the franchise's history, and more.

Santa Monica Studio expressed their gratitude, stating, "On behalf of everyone at Santa Monica Studio, we are immeasurably grateful to have had the chance to build the legacy of this series with and for you, the fans of God of War."

For those eager to immerse themselves further in the celebration of 20 years of God of War, an upcoming PlayStation symphony world tour will commence next month.
