Nintendo has unveiled our first official glimpse of a Nintendo Switch 2 game cartridge ahead of next month's console launch.
The latest footage from Nintendo's Today app showcases the Switch 2 carrying case, which features slots to store up to six cartridges from both Switch generations.
As previously confirmed, Switch 2 cartridges maintain identical dimensions to Switch 1 versions — ensuring backward compatibility through a single cartridge slot. However, a distinct visual difference stands out: the cartridge color.
Switch 2 Cartridges Feature Bold Red Design
The new cartridges sport a vibrant red hue, shown to be a universal change across all game titles rather than exclusive to the Mario Kart World edition displayed in Nintendo's presentation.
Cartridges now display the Switch 2 logo atop their printed labels, replacing the original Nintendo Switch branding.
For those unable to access the Nintendo Today app, tech analyst OatmealDome shared the video on social media platform X (formerly Twitter):

Safety Feature Retained
The cartridges preserve Nintendo's signature safety measure — the bitter-tasting coating designed to prevent accidental ingestion by children or pets.
"Player safety remains our top priority," explained Switch 2 development head Takuhiro Dohta during a previous GameSpot interview. "We've maintained the formulation that ensures immediate rejection if placed in the mouth."

With the June 5, 2025 launch just weeks away, industry reports indicate Nintendo's manufacturing partner Samsung is already exploring hardware revisions, including potential OLED screen enhancements for future models.
