In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Hans's main quest, "For Whom the Bell Tolls," requires crafting a Fever Tonic to aid Thomas. This guide details obtaining the recipe and brewing the tonic.
Locating the Fever Tonic Recipe:
Access to the Surgeon's Workshop in Trosky Castle, where the recipe resides, can be gained through stealth or diplomacy. Sneaking is an option. Alternatively, after delivering the horseshoe in "For Whom the Bell Tolls," speak with Cook Fanka. Assisting her with a locked chest grants access to the noble's kitchen, where you can help the ailing Chamberlain by offering a digestive potion (which you may need to craft). Successful persuasion skill checks will unlock the workshop. If skill checks fail, steal food, give it to a guard in another kitchen area, then sneak to the workshop. The Physician's journal containing the recipe is located on a bookshelf within.
Brewing the Fever Tonic:
The necessary ingredients are readily available on the surgeon's station. Follow these steps:
- Pour wine into the cauldron.
- Add 3 handfuls of Feverfew.
- Lower the heat and boil for 2 turns of the sandglass.
- Grind a handful of Elderberry Leaves.
- Add the ground Elderberry Leaves.
- Add 2 handfuls of Ginger.
- Obtain a phial from the bottom-left shelf.
- Distill the tonic using the Still.
Additional herbs are available in a chest if needed.
Completing the Quest:
After brewing the Fever Tonic, deliver it to Thomas. If you gained the Chamberlain's trust, deliver both the Fever Tonic and the Digestive Potion. Otherwise, use the kitchen to reach Thomas and Adele in the chapel to conclude the quest.
