Elden Ring Feature Film Officially in Development

Visionary Director Alex Garland Takes the Helm

Publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment and production company A24 have jointly announced the development of an Elden Ring feature film. The project will be directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Alex Garland, known for sci-fi masterpieces like Ex Machina and recent war drama Civil War.

The adaptation aims to faithfully translate the game's vast fantasy world and intense combat to cinema. Produced by DNA Films' Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich alongside George R.R. Martin (author of A Song of Ice and Fire) and veteran TV producer Vince Gerardis, the film's creative team combines gaming and fantasy expertise. While FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki's involvement remains unconfirmed, fans eagerly await further casting and storyline details in upcoming announcements.

Elden Ring Franchise Continues to Expand in 2025

While the live-action film's release remains distant, the Elden Ring universe continues expanding through new gaming experiences. Since its 2022 debut, the original game has become a cultural phenomenon, moving 13.4 million copies in just five weeks and recently surpassing 30 million sales lifetime as of April 2025, per the official Elden Ring Twitter account.

The title holds the record for most Game of Year awards (324 total), while its 2024 Shadow of the Erdtree DLC matched the base game's critical acclaim. FromSoftware shows no signs of slowing down, with two major releases scheduled for 2025:

First comes Elden Ring Nightreign (May 30), a cooperative-focused spinoff set in the new realm of Limveld. Players become Nightfarers battling the rising Nightlord threat, reimagining Elden Ring's combat for multiplayer dynamics. Coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Secondly, the Nintendo Switch 2 will receive Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition - a complete package including Shadow of the Erdtree plus exclusive armor sets and customizable Torrent variants. While not a launch title, it promises to bring the full Soulsborne experience to Nintendo's next-gen handheld.
