According to Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy, Disney is secretly developing a horror-themed Star Wars project.

The creative force behind Lucasfilm's latest critically acclaimed series revealed this intriguing detail during a recent interview with Business Insider. When questioned about potentially helming a darker Star Wars venture, Gilroy hinted that Disney already has such a project underway.

"They're doing that. I think they're doing that," Gilroy confirmed about the Star Wars horror concept. "Yes, it's currently in development."

If true, this development could finally bring Star Wars' darker elements to the forefront in unprecedented ways. The exact nature of the project remains uncertain - it might emerge as a television series, feature film, or entirely different format. With no confirmed creative lead and potentially years until further details emerge, Gilroy's comments at least confirm Disney is considering this bold direction.

"With the right creative vision, timing, and atmosphere...anything becomes possible," Gilroy remarked, drawing from his Andor experience. "If our show resonates, we hope to pay forward the opportunity we received from The Mandalorian - creating momentum for others to pursue their own innovative visions."

A full-fledged Star Wars horror project has long been a dream for countless fans - including Mark Hamill himself. While the franchise has thoroughly explored the Skywalker saga and its numerous side stories, vast potential remains for delving into its shadowy corners. Though some spinoffs have flirted with darker themes, major productions typically maintain broad family-friendly appeal.
